If your looking for a great day out that is close to Hobart town, a trip to ZooDoo is a must. As a activity whilst waiting for your afternoon/evening flight - it is also a great idea.
Just a short 30 min drive from Hobart, ZooDoo is great for the kids and Adults alike.
We loved our trip to Zoodoo Zoo, with over 400 animals spread over 60 hectares and located only 6km from Richmond.
The zoo is funded from the revenue it generates, so not only are you supporting the ongoing care of all the zoo animals, but you will have a great day out with the family.
We spent a good 2 hours there in late Autumn, on a beautiful sunny day. Crisp, but nothing a good parka and jeans couldn’t help with.
A tip, is make sure you purchase the animal feed when you first buy your zoo entry tickets, as the machines on site near some of the enclosures, do not take coins, only tokens from the main office area. It will save you a walk back later on – trust us, you will want to hand feed the animals.
There is gorgeous little meerkets when you first walk in and further inside also and before long you are close to cute little Tassie devils sleeping away in the sun or running around their enclosure. We loved feeding the dozens and dozens of kangaroos, the sweet little deers and further back on the property, you’ll find cows, donkey’s, llama’s, zebra’s, lions, different sorts of monkeys, emu’s and more!! There is also various small to large birds including cockatoo’s, rosella’s, finches and others.
Zoodoo is open from 9am-5pm, 7 days a week and is the perfect place to enjoy hands on wildlife experiences, as well as interactive keeper talks, and other really unique animal experiences.
Admission prices:
Adult $32 (16+)
Child $18 (3-15)
Family $89 (2A/2C)
There is also annual membership options. If you book at least 24 hours in advance, they have keeper for a day experiences and behind the scenes Lions 'RAW' experiences – on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 4-5pm. Definitely recommended – even if you don’t have kids.
As 2 adult animal lovers, we had a ball and would highly recommend.
Coal River Farm is approx. 15 minute drive from Hobart’s CBD and 10 minutes to the airport.
Coal River Farm is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm and is located 634 Richmond Rd, Cambridge TAS 7170. Ph: 03 6248 4960
Overlooking the beautiful coal river valley, you can soak up the scenery as you sit outside or inside with tall glass windows maximising the view.
In the restaurant you can indulge in a delicious array of award winning artisan cheeses and chocolates, along with a glass of wine, beer, tea or coffee. There is a breakfast menu, lunch, menu, kids menu and of course desserts – with a key focus on local produce. The house hot chocolate with a selection of 2 gourmet chocolates, is a winner.
You can also purchase chocolates, cheese, pantry items and condiments in the on site store.
If you are are keen to sample the locally produced wines, you can book a full day wine tour, visiting the vineyards in the area, through Ageing Barrel Tours – (03) 6289 5341.
