Art Farm Birchs Bay

Updated: May 30, 2022

Another great day trip, which is only a short 45 min drive from Hobart.

I would suggest that you have breakfast at Jam Packed cafe, then hit the road after 9 am (missing the morning traffic) and set the GPS for the drive to Birches bay.

The 2Km walking track is relatively easy ( not wheel chair friendly). You can take a picnic with you (pick it up from Jam Packed when you leave) and enjoy the lush farmland and forest at the top of the hill you climb. It is a great place to sit and enjoy the art and the peace and quiet on the 12 acres.

We then went to Bar/Bistro - Peppermint Hotel (peppermintbay.com.au) which is a short drive from the farm for lunch.

Peppermint Bay Hotel is located 35 minutes south of Hobart in Woodbridge, Tasmania. Built in 2003, our award-winning architecturally designed building overlooks the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.

Staying true to it's roots, their chef’s put a heavy emphasis on a seasonally changing menu making the most of the fresh produce from our gardens and local suppliers to ensure that the best product will end up on your plate. Take a wander up to our kitchen garden and check out what’s in season. They love sourcing from Tasmanian producers, and we’re pretty sure they do it best. Their wine list is a testament to this, showcasing primarily Tasmanian wine, beer, cider and spirits.

A great day trip.

Sculpture Trail, Farm and Garden Walks Open 365 days a year, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Art Farm Birchs Bay (AFBB) is a not-for-profit association established to foster engagement between the community, artists, art, and the landscape. AFBB is situated at Five Bob Farm, an innovative working farm in the south Channel and home to Diemen Pepper. A visit to the Art Farm includes meandering through fields of Tasmanian native pepper, orchards, and an extensive kitchen garden. Art Farm Birchs Bay hosts exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops, and the renowned Sculpture Trail - an annual sculpture exhibition featuring Tasmanian and interstate artists with support by private sponsorship and local government. Art Farm Birchs Bay is based in lutruwita (Tasmania), approx 35 minutes south of nipaluna (Hobart) and 10 minutes south of putalina (Oyster Cove). We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the palawa people, and pay deep respect to elders past and present, to the many Aboriginal people that did not make elder status, and to the Tasmanian Aboriginal community that continue to care for Country.
